What we keep, and why
ShelterBoard holds records about dogs and about the people who care for them. This page says plainly what that is. Short version: it belongs to your shelter, we don't sell it, and you can have it back or have it gone.
What we store
Records about the dogs in your shelter's care: name, kennel, photo, status, special instructions, handling notes, comments, and the history of every outing — who took the dog out, when, and when it came back.
Accounts for the people who use the board: name, email address, role, and which shelter they belong to. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored by us in a readable form.
Ordinary technical records that come with running a website — request logs and aggregate page analytics. We don't use advertising trackers, and there is no third-party tracking on this marketing site beyond privacy-preserving page counts.
Who can see it
A shelter's data is visible only to the people that shelter has invited. Volunteers see the board and the dogs; staff and admins see reporting and volunteer management. No shelter can see another shelter's dogs or people.
We don't sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it to train anything.
How long it's kept
Dogs that leave your shelter are marked as departed rather than deleted, so their outing history stays available to you. If you want a dog, a person, or your whole shelter removed permanently, ask and we'll do it.
Your choices
Anyone with an account can ask for a copy of what's stored about them, or ask to have it corrected or deleted. Deleting a volunteer's account keeps the outings they recorded but removes their personal details from them, because the dog's history matters to the next handler.
Children
ShelterBoard is a tool for shelter staff and volunteers. It isn't intended for children, and we don't knowingly create accounts for anyone under 13.
Asking us something
